NEW LEADERS OF THE GYMNASIA COUNCIL HAVE BEEN ELECTED.*

On October 16 an organizational meeting of the gymnasia council was  held. Sylenko Valeriy Anatoliyovych, was unanimously elected chairman of the council; among his deputies are - Ivanenko Ihor (parent section) and Anastasia Kovalenko (pupil section). Shaposhnikova L. V., a school psychologist, was elected secretary of the council.

The council members also decided on the work of 5 permanent commissions. At the next meeting they will elect the leaders of the commissions.

Besides, the gymnasia council elected Gorbenko Valeriy Dmytrovych a new Chairman of the Charitable Foundation "To Ukraine through Education".

INTERNATIONAL ACTIVITIES: THE PROJECT "O’HENRY" IS GOING ON.*

Today, a group of gymnasia pupils once again goes to Poland to participate in the language project "O’Henry." During two weeks, the pupils will not only learn English from native speakers, but also Polish, which is a new feature this year. Of course, the project participants will actively rest, get acquainted with Poland’s historical and cultural places. The project coordinator is Kirsanova E. V. who has made a lot of preparatory work and, according to the agreement between the FCG and the project organizers, will stay all these day in Poland, together with the pupils.

CHARITY: THE PUPILS HAVE HELPED AN OFFICER WOUNDED AT THE ATO.*

On October 15, 2014 the sum of 3, 000 UAH, collected during the action "Give the tree a ring," was transferred to the card account of Oleksiy Tsapenko, about whom it was written in the newspaper “SIEGODNYA” (Today) on October 9, 2014. The decision to give financial assistance was made at the meeting of the gymnasia activists. The mother of the young officer Tetyana Mykolaivna confirmed by telephone thet the funds had been received and asked to send her regards to the gymnasia pupils and teachers.

On October 17, the same assistance will be given to Koldunovych Roman from the village of Bilozirya, Cherkasy district. Currently, he is undergoing rehabilitation in Poland and will return to Cherkasy region on Friday.

SOME NATURAL SCIENCES WILL BE TAUGHT AN ENGLISH.*

On October 14, the gymnasia principal received Ella Bewsey,  Great Britain,   who will have been staying in Cherkassy for a long time. It was agreed that the English as a professional teacher of natural science, would teach natural sciences together with the main teacher. Thus, there is an  agreement on the joint teaching of chemistry starting with the next week. The list of subjects, that Ella will help teach, will increase.

TODAY MYKHAILO DRAI-KHMARA WOULD BE 125 YEARS OLD.*

Today, the 125th birth anniversary of the famous Ukrainian poet, literary critic, scholar, philologist, translator Mykhailo Drai-Khmara was marked in Ukraine. On October 10th, 2014 a memorial plaque by the famous sculptor Raczkowski will be mounted on the wall of the house in Sadova street in Kyiv, where M. Drai-Khmara had lived before he was arrested. In addition, this day there will be a recital dedicated to M. Drai-Khmara at Shevchenko National University in Kyiv, where the poet studied in his time. In the FCG study №26, named after the poet, a number of festive events will be held this day.

Let us remind you that the gymnasia held an annual student conference dedicated to M. Dry-Khmara’s creative work last spring.

N. V. ANANYEVA VISITED THE AMBASSADOR’S RECEPTION *

In early October 2014, the Kyiv residence of Simon Smith, Her Majesty British Ambassador, hosted a reception devoted to the introduction of the Cambridge Programme for supporting training centers in Ukraine. The opening speech was made by Ambassador Simon Smith. Alistair Starling, the Regional Director Northern Europe at Cambridge English Language Assessment, reported on "Modern trends in teaching and assessing English language." Michael Carrier, the director of strategic partnerships at Cambridge English Language Assessment spoke on «Cambridge Programme for supporting training centers in Ukraine." There were also Arek Jaworski, the head of marketing programs in northern Europe and Daryna Sizhuk, the programme consultant in Ukraine. All the present enjoyed the ceremony of awarding with gold certificates certain training centers in Ukraine, which achieved the greatest success. Later all the present enjoyed live music and socializing in English.

N. V. Ananyeva, a FCG vice-principal, visited the reception. She learned a lot about the Cambridge program, talked with Ambassador Simon Smith and some principals and teachers from schools of different cities of Ukraine, who actively participate in the program.

OUR GYMNASIA WAS VISITED BY THE MAYOR. *

On October 8, our gymnasia was visited by Mayor Serhiy Odarych. He was interested in the specification figures of saving energy and how the general overhaul of the gymnasia facade was progressing. The mayor visited the building site where the builders were installing insulating materials, walked about the gymnasia, had a long conversation with the principal and gave an interview to VIKKA TV Company.

Las profesoras del colegio en el Congreso de Hispanistas (ESP)

Los días 3-4 de octubre las profesoras Bereslavska V. І. y Yegórova Y. S. participaron en el V Congreso de Hispanistas de Ucrania que tuvo lugar en Dnipropetrovsk bajo el tema «Los premios Nóbel y su aportación al desarrollo humano». Los profesores de la escuela superior, los de la secuandaria, los lingüiístas de toda la Ucrania y España vinieron a la ciudad de Dnipropetrovsk. En las actividades del  Congreso participaron Víctor Murcia Garzón, Consul de la Embajada de España en Ucrania; los profesores de la Universidad de Cádiz,  España.

Durante las sesiones plenarias del Congreso fueron presentados los informes dedicados a  las cuestiones actuales de las investigaciones del patrimonio científico y literario de los laureados hispanos del premio Nóbel, asimismo a  las cuestiones de metodología y   didáctica de la enseñanza del español, de la literatura española y de filología, de los problemas de lingüística y traducción. Bereslavska V. І. presentó su informe titulado «El uso del ordenador en el aprendizaje del español». La televisión regional de Dnipropetrovsk entrevistó a Valentina Ivanivna  acerca de las cuestiones del aprendizaje del español.

Los participantes tenían la oportunidad de mirar la película contemporánea, asistir a la cena poética, escuachar los talleres, conocer los museos de la ciudad de Dnipropetrovsk.

Los representantes de la Embajada de España en Ucrania  y los socios de la Asociasión de Hispanistas de Ucrania entregaron a los participantes del Congreso los certificados.

COOPERATION WITH THE UNIVERSITY CONTINUES.*

The agreement between LCC, International University in Klaipeda, Lithuania, and the gymnasia has been valid for more than five years. Several graduates have been studying at this private university with teaching all subjects in English and having full accreditation. Among the last year gymnasia graduates who successfully enrolled at the university, are Andrushchenko Denys and Bielecky Taras. On October 2, 2014 the gymnasia was visited by L. Didkivska, an employee of the university entrant department who held a multimedia presentation about the university presented for 10th-11th formers. The pupils listened with interest about the benefits of studying at the university, watched the slides of its comfortable classrooms and dormitories, acquainted with the traditional sports and cultural activities and willingly watched a proposed video about the university. On October 30, 2014 all interested school leavers will take part in the testing of English and will be interviewed. Good luck to all the participants of the future testing!

PROJECT E-TWINNING: HOW WE ACQUAINTED PEOPLE LIVING ABROAD WITH OUR COUNTRY.*

For the third consecutive year, our gymnasia has been participating in the popular and prestigious international project E-TWINNING. Recently, our participants have reported about the work done and that one of the projects was considered successful and it was placed on the project platform. THE SITE OF THE MUNICIPAL OFFICE OF TEACHING METHODS HAS WRITTEN ABOUT OUR WORKSHOP.*

Here what was written on the site of the MOTM about the seminar for   principals from the regional center that was held on September 25, 2014:

 

"Trends and prospects of the formation of peacekeeping and polycultural activities at an educational institution"

 

Serhiy Sayenko, the gymnasia principal, made a professional report on the subject. Principals were present at a public sitting of the Center of polylinguistic and polycultural development of personal and international cooperation (Ananyeva N. V., Ph.D., vice-principal, A. Potiomkina O. V., a teacher-methodologist of English, Mokrushyna T. G., a teacher-methodologist of French, Honoured Teacher of Ukraine, Bereslavs’ka V. I., a teacher-methodologist of Spanish, Honoured Teacher of Ukraine, Sylenko V. A., a teacher-methodologist of History and Law, Honoured Teacher of Ukraine, Stepanenko A. V., a teacher-methodologist of English, Svitlychny P. M., a teacher-methodologist of English).

 

The principals were present at the lessons (14) the cross-cutting subject of which was peace.

 

The gymnasia pupils held a series of flash mobs; the principals became acquainted with gifted gymnasia pupils and were present at joining the ranks of Scouts and a charity fair, the proceeds from which would go to aid treating soldiers wounded in the ATO zone.

VIC JACKOPSON ONCE AGAIN VISITED OUR GYMNASIA.*

Yesterday our gymnasia was once again visited by Vic Jackopson, the ex-President of Hope Now International Charitable Christian Fund, who had done a lot of good things for the development of our establishment. Today he is a respected British pensioner, however, loves Ukraine and our city and continues to look after the fate of several young people from Cherkasy, who he helped to get out of difficult situations and make a successful career. It became known about his next visit to Cherkasy from his page in Facebook. Vic could not refuse to come to the FCG at our request...

 

Vic conducted a lesson for the pupils of Forms 8-10, and spoke to them about the complexities of modern Ukrainian realities. The guest also met with the principal and Ananyeva N. V., a vice-principal.

 

Vic Jackopson was awarded by the Queen for his exemplary work in Cherkasy.

THE INTERACT ONCE AGAIN "WORKED" IN KHIMSELYSHCHE.*

21 On September 21, Interact once again visited Khimselyshche where the shelter "Warm House”, in which the club members implement a volunteer program of serving the local community. Lementovsky Ivan, Gorbunov Mykhailo, Samoilenko Polina, Kravets Valya, Voropay Victoria and Krasiuk Roman not only organized entertainment for young pupils, but also painted the fence of the establishment in patriotic colors. Besides, the Interact members presented each pupil with a toy and played fun games and entertained them. The shelter employees appreciate the work of the Interact very much.

 

We invite all pupils who are not indifferent to join the Interact. The participants of the action gather near the Centre for Child and Youth Creative Work at 10 a.m. each Sunday.

AMERICAN VOLUNTEERS MET WITH THE GYMNASIA ACTIVISTS.*

16 On September 16, two American volunteers Dennis Sawyer and Rick Skakz from Indiana met with the gymnasia pupils-activists. The guests told them about their volunteer projects in Ukraine in the framework of an established volunteer organization "Foreign angels." In turn, members of Interact, Scouts, CCD, European Club, the FCG president told them about their achievements. The guests got acquainted with the gymnasia during a short tour. They were satisfied with the experience of the gymnasia activists, their knowledge of English and promised to spend all day long during their next arrival at the gymnasia.

SLOV'YANSK HAS GOT TO KNOW ABOUT OUR GYMNASIA.*

On September 5-6, a large delegation from Cherkasy visited Slov’yansk, a town in Donetsk Oblast. Among the delegated there was Skoryk T. A., the chairman of the Association of principals of Cherkasy Schools. Long before the trip, she had offered to prepare presentation materials by Cherkasy schools for the sponsored School №15, which was restored after the hostilities by our oblast. That is why, there were issues of our gymnasia newspaper “Unikalniy Hymnazyst” among the presents to pupils of this Slov’yansk school, souvenirs etc. Besides, at the request of the regional department of culture, we gave the school teachers our scenarios of various holidays held at the gymnasia.

THE AMBASSADOR OF UKRAINE TO IRAN, OUR FORMER SCHOOL-LEAVER, VISITED THE GYMNASIA.*

Today the gymnasia was visited by our former graduate, now Ukraine's ambassador to Iran Oleksandr Serhiyovych Samars’ky. He is on vacation, so he came home and wanted to meet with the gymnasia school-leavers. A tour round the gymnasia was conducted for the guest by the principal and Ananyeva N. V., a vice-principal. Almost an hour did the ambassador tell the graduates about his career from a teacher of biology in Smilyansky District to the post of diplomat, answer numerous questions asked by the gymnasia school-leavers in 2015. The principal presented Mr. Samars’ky with a set of the gymnasia souvenirs, handed invitation No. 1 to the celebration festivities devoted to the 135th anniversary of the gymnasia on November 20 next year.

YOUTH LEADERS ARE GOING TO LEARN. *

The Interregional Youth Forum "Youth unite Ukraine" will be held in the city of Kremenchug, Poltava Oblast, on September 5-7. Havrikova Dasha, a  NOSU Scout unit leader, Krasiuk Roman, the gymnasia   president, and Lementovsky  Ivan, the Interact president,   will work for three days in the form of Open Space. After the arrival, each participant will have the ideas and skills of what to do and how they can participate working in the gymnasia’s NCAs. The Forum participants will be accompanied by Pomoynytskyy Maxim, the supervisor of the FCG scouts.

 

The Forum is organized and conducted by the Directorate for Family and Youth of Kremenchuk City Council and the Youth Parliament of Kremenchug.

METHODOLOGICAL WORK OF OUR TEACHERS IS NAMED BEST.*

From January 28 to May 23, 2014 the editorial staff of the magazine “Zastupnyk Dyrektora Shkoly” (“Vice-principal”) held a contest "Organization of methodological associations." For participation in the contest teachers loaded to the contest site or send it by email their authoring on the organization of participation of methodological associations in educational activities of an educational institution. An interesting experience teaching unions was shared not only by principals, vice-principals, teachers but also teaching methods specialists of research and teaching methods centers. A total of 88 teaching aids were sent to the contest to the address of the editorial staff.

 

The contest jury consisting of representatives of "The International Center for Finance and Economic Development: Education» deeply analyzed and assessed the works.

 

The contest winners were:

 

First Place – Ananyeva Nadiya, a gymnasia vice-principal on educational work, Lyudmyla Tkachenko, Olga Potiomkina, Estella Kirsanova, teachers of English of Cherkasy First City Gymnasia.

 

This is good news for the new academic year.

Happy Independence Day!*

Dear visitors of the site. Let me congratulate you all on Independence Day! Before the previous year, it was a usual day-off for many people, this year, however, it is a holiday filled with real content. The cause is well-known for everybody – the war in Eastern Ukraine and the annexation of the Crimea. These tragic events have united our great country, hardened patriotism, filled the concept of independence with a real content. To confirm all the above mentioned, there are numerous examples of patriotic service of lots of pupils, teachers and parents to our country. I am sure that the next academic year will be full of unprecedented manifestations of patriotism, thirst for obtaining sound knowledge and desire to strengthen our country, make it a prosperous European country!
