English Club

English Club will be an extracurricular activity at the First City Gymnasium at 3:15 pm on Friday. English Club will be held once or twice a week depending on the students schedule and enthusiasm. The goals of English Club will be the following:

  • To advance students understanding of the English Language
  • To give students better conversational English and prepare them for foreign travels and education.
  • To give students cultural awareness of values, traditions and culture of English speaking countries.
  • To have students bring their values, traditions and culture to class creating an exchange of cultures.
  • To create a group oriented club that works together at accomplishing a higher goal as described in earlier objectives.
  • The main goal is to create a fun activity for students that allow them to increase their English skills and general knowledge in an environment they enjoy coming to.

Sean Boshard will be the coordinator of English Club. He received his higher education in St. Augustine, Florida. He specialized in Journalism and Public Relations at Flagler College. He continued his higher education at Jacksonville University while working in Admissions and Information Technology at the University. Rebecca Crawford and other Peace Corps volunteers will contribute to English Club when available and on certain occasions. This will help provide outside ideas and keep the club fresh and up to date.

To achieve the goals described above English Club will encompass general English subjects and also specific subjects the teachers have professional knowledge in. For example body parts, clothes, appearance, personality, hobbies, sports, directions, essay format, writing, advanced dialogue , travel, entertainment, AIDs awareness, higher education and etc. Specific areas that might be further explored will be business development, journalism, technology and dissemination of information. These areas will depend on time and the students' needs.

In conclusion English Club will be a flexible club improving communication among students and creating cultural awareness. English Club will also be an extra-curricular after school activity that will help prepare students for their future, higher education and professions after they graduate from the First City Gymnasium. It will also give students confidence to travel abroad to English speaking countries if they wish to explore further foreign opportunities.
